The Anointing

One thing I have learned about Scripture, each Word (concept) usually has two meanings! One Physical and one Spiritual…

  1. The Spiritual in Luke 4:18 “He has anointed me to preach…”
  2. Anoint [chrio /khree·o/]: is confined to “sacred and symbolical anointings”; of Christ as the “Anointed of God”, of Kings, Priests, and Prophets. The title Christ, signifies “The Anointed One” (it is NOT Jesus’ Last Name), and Christians are “Christ like — Anointed Ones”!

  3. The Physical in Luke 7:46 “This woman has anointed my feet…”
  4. Anoint [aleipho /al·i·fo/]: is a general term used for “an anointing” of any kind, whether of physical refreshment after washing, or of the sick, or of a dead body.

Unction [chrisma /khris·mah/]: anything smeared on, unguent, ointment, usually prepared by the Hebrews from oil and aromatic herbs. Anointing was the inaugural ceremony for kings and priests.

We can see “Anointing” has a double purpose, and “Unction” is the act of anointing… Anointing with salve or oil for Physical Healing or burial, and Anointing with oil as an act of choosing a person for Spiritual Service — King, Priest, or Prophet — equipping them with God’s Holy Spirit.

What is the Spiritual Anointing and it’s purpose?

The Anointing is the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) upon you and in you… “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me.”

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed David in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. 1st Samuel 16:13

The Spiritual Anointing has two purposes! The first is to Teach You…
“The anointing which you have received of him abides (lives) in you, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide (live) in him.” 1st John 2:27

The second is to empower and equip you for the Ministry God has given You…
“God has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

In the case of sickness we are to anoint the sick with oil and pray the “Prayer of Faith”, then God will forgive their sin, and raise them up! Can you see how we are co-laborers with God? We act and He acts!

This is always “The Way” of Christ’s Ministry. Christ Himself said, “Of Myself I do nothing. It is The Father who dwells (lives) in me, He does ‘The Work’!” He explained, “I only say what The Father tells Me, I only do the things He shows Me!”

When the disciples returned from their first missionary journey, they declared to Jesus, “Even the Devils are subject to US in Your Name”… The Name of Jesus Christ!!! This can be true of us also, if we can understand and believe the truth of “The Power of The Name of Jesus!”

God Anointed Jesus. As Christ — The Anointed One — He proclaimed it to the church, and then proved its Truth and Reality by the Words he spoke and the Works he did! His actions proved his Anointing to the world as did his Disciple’s Anointing after him.

Paul said, “My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

Today we hear these Preachers “Talk” …Butt, they demonstrate NO POWER! Going to their “Services” gains you nothing — Going to your Prayer Closet, as Christ told you, gains God’s awareness of your obedience!

…Which do you choose?

Reading The Bible for yourself and being Taught by The Author is much better than hearing it Second-Hand. So if you take 1 John 2:27 seriously and learn of Him from Him, you cannot go wrong. It is a place and process of Safety!

Enter by the strait (narrow) gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because strait is the gate, and narrow (difficult) is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

According to this Scripture we had better be looking for the Strait Gate and the Narrow Way. Jesus said, “I am THE WAY!” He gave us a group of Do’s and Dont’s, plainly Written …Butt, If you do not read for yourself, and count on someone else to teach you rather than God and Christ, you will not find The Gate or The Way.

The Bible was published so you could read for yourself and not be deceived by Satan or anyone else!

Let’s really think about how foolish it is to say, “I cannot read what is written for me.” Why is it that there is no other book people say this about? It is the Only Book written for you and your Salvation! Do you think God put all His Words in a Book you could not read? He wrote The Book so you could read it for yourself!

Do you see the Foolishness of this way of thinking?

Get your Bible and read it yourself, for yourself. Rejoice in what is written to you, and for you! Let God, Christ, and those whom they sent teach you – No one can do it better, Amen!
