The Feet of Jesus

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me.”

And Jesus answered and said unto her, “Martha, Martha, you art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38-42

  1. To draw around, to draw away, distract
  2. To be driven about mentally, to be distracted
  3. To be over-occupied, too busy, about a thing

We can be distracted and drawn away from the “one thing that is needful”, that “good part”, sitting in His presence and hearing His word, by the cares of this world.

Things that can be found in the presence of Jesus as we come to His Feet:

  1. Healing: And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them.
    Matthew 15:30
  2. Forgiveness of Sins: And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment… And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
    Luke 7:36-38
  3. Right-mindedness: Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
    Luke 8:35
  4. Answer to prayer with new life and resurrection power: And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying… While he yet spake, there came one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway.
    Luke 8:41-42
  5. Hearing His Word: And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
    Luke 10:39

Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.
John 12:1-3

Even after being chastened by the Lord, Martha still chose to minister to the needs of the flesh, and not the Lord. Mary again chose to minister to the Lord and sit at His feet.

Now its up to you to choose, choose that good part which shall not be taken away!
